Airaines: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Church of Notre-Dame d’Airaines dates back to the 11th century and is considered one of the oldest religious monuments in the département. Inside, it also contains an 11th-century baptismal font.
For some visitors, personal travel planning includes the desire to rent a holiday apartment in Airaines.
Culture and History
The town’s historic buildings include the buildings of the Prieuré d’Airaines, which are classified as historic monuments. The Prieuré d’Airaines was rebuilt in the 16th century after being destroyed by the Burgundians in 1422.
The Tours de Luynes d’Airaines consist of two stone towers. They are the only surviving remains of the former castle of the Dukes of Luynes. The moat still surrounding the towers can be walked around.
The parish church of Saint-Denis is also part of the townscape. It is a Flamboyant Gothic building from the 16th century and houses several remarkable works of art, including a stone Entombment.
The 47th exhibition season was held at the Prieuré d’Airaines from 18 May to 28 September. Its theme was “Chemin de croix” and it featured works by Sergio Ferro, Pierre Fichet, Jacques Pasquier and Nicolas Alquin.
Landscape
The Voie verte du Vimeu à l’Airaines follows a former railway line that ran from Longpré-les-Corps-Saints to Gamaches. It passes through a typically Picard landscape with agricultural plateaus, wooded slopes, continuous rural development and valley floors.
The Tours de Luynes d’Airaines offer a 180-degree panorama over the surrounding valleys.
