Culture

The Church of Saint John the Baptist was built in the Gothic style. After the First World War, it was rebuilt according to the plans of the former church and completed in 1931. Its interior contains a Renaissance marble high altar, marble floor slabs in the chancel, Renaissance woodwork, and a beautiful altarpiece depicting the Nativity.

The Tordoir was an oil mill on a branch of the Oise and was built before the French Revolution of 1789. Oilseeds, especially rapeseed, were processed there using millstones. The bridge to the island, where the Tordoir’s residence and oil mill stood, is still preserved.

History

Fort de Vendeuil is a Séré de Rivière-type fort dating from 1875 to 1880. It comprised an underground barracks and extensive tunnel systems, including a tunnel connecting it to Fort de Mayot. Fort de Vendeuil is considered a heavily concreted hill that was blown up; some sturdy casemates are still preserved.
