Culture and history

The Église Saint-Martin in Montreuil-aux-Lions dates from the 12th century. It is classified as a Monument historique; the classification dates from 12 January 1921. The size and quality of its stained-glass windows are particularly noteworthy.

Near the hamlet of Sablonnière, a Templar commandery called the Commandery of Sablonnière was established in the Middle Ages. Ferme de l’Hôpital is the only surviving remnant of the former hospital commandery of Templar origin.

Montreuil-aux-Lions can be reached via the A4 motorway in less than an hour from Paris and via the D1003 in 15 minutes from Château-Thierry.

Montreuil-aux-Lions British Cemetery lies east of the village on the edge of a main road and can be reached from the direction of Château-Thierry via the D1003.
