Le Charmel includes species-rich grasslands on marl soil. The village is also part of the 612-hectare forest complex Complexe forestier du plateau meulier briard.
The Complexe forestier du plateau meulier briard comprises extensive forest habitats ranging from acidiphilous to neutrophilous and from mesophilous to hygrophilous types. It also includes a network of habitats within the forest, with clearings, ponds, small streams and ditches.

Getting around
On 7 June 2026, the programme Circuit pédestre 10 km included a 10-kilometre circular walking route. There are also around 30 signposted hiking trails around Le Charmel, covering a total distance of approximately 332.3 kilometres.
The sports club Le Charmel Cyclo organises and develops cycling tourism for the residents of Le Charmel and the surrounding municipalities.
Culture and history
The portal of the Église Saint-Martin features a semicircular archivolt intricately decorated with broken rods.
On 16 May 1817, a bell was blessed and consecrated in the parish church of Saint-Martin du Charmel. The ceremony for the blessing and consecration of the 1817 bell in the parish church of Saint-Martin du Charmel took place in honour of the Holy Trinity, the Virgin Mary and Saint Martin.
The Château du Charmel was a seigneurial estate and, at the same time, a viscounty. Before the French Revolution, two Sisters of Charity of Nevers served in Le Charmel: one cared for the sick and the other taught poor girls.
The Château du Charmel is in very poor condition and is visible from a great distance.
