La Chapelle-Monthodon: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Culture

The church displays the excavated medieval floor tiles in seven frames, each containing 36 tiles. The choir and the bell tower at the crossing of the transept date from the 13th century. The floor plan is described as “ad quadratum” and takes the form of a Latin cross.

The memorial at Ferme de la Verdure in La Chapelle-Monthodon was erected in 1929 and commemorates the failure of the last German offensive of 15 July 1918. It marks the southern limit of the German advance during the Second Battle of the Marne.

The washhouses of Baulne and La Chapelle-Monthodon were designed by artists and offer an artistic way to discover the fables of Jean de La Fontaine in this region in the south of the Aisne département. In a washhouse by the church on the village square of La Chapelle-Monthodon, a bronze sculpture depicts the fable “The Rooster and the Fox”.
