Folembray: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Nature

The northern half of Folembray includes part of the Coucy-Basse state forest. It extends as far as the first buildings surrounding the former glassworks. The Natura 2000 SCI “Massif forestier de Saint-Gobain” is also located within the municipality of Folembray. The Coucy-Basse state forest in Folembray is also home to the sessile oak “Chêne du Père Augustin”.

Culture

The Église Saint-Pierre de Folembray was rebuilt in the Romanesque style after 1918. It features stained-glass windows created by the Parisian glass artist Raphaël Lardeur. The choir windows depict the glassworkers of Folembray and their families offering themselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The former royal glassworks of Folembray operated from 1705 to 1952. Its history is presented in a mini-museum with two display cases, which is accessible during the town hall’s opening hours.

Activities

The Circuit de Folembray opened in 1975 and was one of the few racing circuits in northern France. Rallye Nomade is based on the grounds of the Château de Folembray. It hunts in the Forêt domaniale de Saint-Gobain–Coucy-Basse on Tuesdays and Saturdays from September to March.

The former railway line that served to supply the Folembray glassworks is now suitable for walks and leads to the forest massif. The Jardin Exotique de Folembray was a rescue centre for small primates and other exotic animals.
