Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Georges in Connigis is protected as a historical monument; it was listed on 17 January 1920. Its main construction phases date from the 12th and 13th centuries.
The nave houses the polychrome wooden statue “Christ en croix” from the 16th century, which is classified as a protected object. Also located in Saint-Georges is the white stone gravestone “Dalle funéraire d'Ignès de Saint-Aubin” from the first half of the 16th century; it too is classified as a protected object.
The Château de Connigis has origins dating back to the 16th century and has belonged to Andrea's family heritage since the 19th century. Connigis is also home to a château that is one of the local attractions.
Landscape and Hiking
Le Tour de la Garenne is a moderately difficult circular hike covering 9.67 km, connecting Connigis, Saint-Eugène and Crézancy, and taking approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes.
Another circular route passes through Monthurel: Les Portes du paradis is 14.4 km long, rated difficult and takes approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Surroundings and Regional Connections
The Château de Château-Thierry is a château in the vicinity of Connigis. Also located nearby is the Abbaye Notre-Dame de l'Amour-Dieu, a historical site. Further afield in the surrounding region is the Maison de Camille et Paul Claudel, a museum; the Abbaye de Coincy, a monastery, is also located there.
The terroir of Connigis regained its “Champagne” designation in 1954.
