Saint-Pierre-Du-Vauvray: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Saint-Pierre-du-Vauvray combines distinctive buildings along the Seine with hiking trails along the riverbank, across chalk slopes and through a diverse landscape.
Culture and History
The Pont sur la Seine is a single-arch reinforced-concrete bridge with a span of 131 metres. After its destruction in June 1940, it was rebuilt in 1946 almost exactly as it had been, using the same technical features; it was opened in November 1947.
The parish church of Saint-Pierre was built between 1026 and 1138. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross.
The former protection of Château Labelle extended to the entire château, the area of the park, and the landscaped and architecturally designed features of the estate. These included a Moorish pavilion, a lookout pavilion, the wall of the former well or a retaining wall, stairways, decorated grottoes, the enclosing wall and railings.
Hiking and Nature
The hike from Saint-Pierre to Heudebouville and Vironvay can be started at Saint-Pierre-du-Vauvray railway station or at the Vieux-puits car park behind the school. For five kilometres, the route follows the Quai de Seine along the banks of the Seine.
Les Côtes du Vauvray is an 11-kilometre hike that takes about three hours and is considered difficult. It offers panoramic views over the Seine Valley as well as a viewpoint overlooking Louviers.
The Les Côtes du Vauvray hike begins at the church of Saint-Pierre-du-Vauvray and leads through steep chalk slopes with diverse fauna and flora. These include orchids, western green lizards, cicadas, praying mantises, butterflies and numerous birds.
