History

Saint-Luc offers a peaceful, rural setting typical of the Normandy plateau. At the same time, historical traces can be found here around chapels, a vanished château and the history of the d’Espinay family.

The Church of Notre-Dame de Bonsecours is the former chapel of the château of Saint-Luc. The parish chapel of Saint-Luc dates from the 16th century and features a chequerboard-patterned façade and a small bell tower. François d’Espinay St Luc was the feudal lord of Saint-Luc and a loyal companion of Henry III and Henry IV. François d’Espinay is mentioned in Alexandre Dumas’ novel “La Dame de Monsoreau”. He died in 1597 during the siege of Amiens.

The cemetery of Saint-Luc contains an old gravestone that helped identify the local feudal lord. The old gravestone was identified as the burial place of François Ier d’Espinay, a historical and literary figure.

The route combines open plains, woodland and small roads, and passes close to an original Norman chapel. It starts at the car park by the picturesque town hall of Saint-Luc.
