Culture

The former, originally unpowered tugboat Midway is moored in Poses and now houses the Musée de la batellerie. The tugboat Fauvette was launched in 1928 and was among the first tugboats to be equipped with a diesel engine.

Since 1992, the Fauvette has been classified as a historic monument and once again travels along the Seine. On board, visitors can see the wheelhouse, engine room, and the quarters of the captain and his deckhand. At the Musée de la batellerie, visitors can also explore a unique boat on the Seine that is almost one hundred years old. It includes the engine room, the engineers’ and deckhands’ quarters, the captain’s and helmsman’s quarters, and the wheelhouse.

At the Musée de la batellerie, memories of the river are kept alive through stories told by boatmen, unusual objects, and timeless photographs. Marcel Niquet left behind more than 2,200 works featuring portraits of boatmen, scenes from everyday life, and landscapes along the Seine. La Rousserole is the house in Poses where the painter lived.

Nature

The Parc de Léry-Poses comprises three lakes, with a total water surface of 650 hectares. In addition, there are 1,300 hectares of green space. Lac de la Grande Noé in the Parc de Léry-Poses is a protected ornithological reserve of national importance, located on a major bird migration corridor.

Around 210 bird species can be observed during migration in the Lac de la Grande Noé nature reserve.

Activities

Lac des Deux Amants is open to the general public and is suitable for water sports. Equipment can be rented on site.

There are playgrounds for children along the shores. Lac du Mesnil is mainly used by sports clubs, schools, and associations for sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing courses.

Walking Tour

Poses has a guided, immersive audio trail about the history of former boatmen. It is described as taking around one hour to walk in one direction and covering approximately two kilometres, with seven additional stages.
