Culture and history
The parish church of Saint-André has been documented since the 11th century and preserves the foundations of its former 12th-century building. The former church building burned down in 1806; the parish church of Saint-André was rebuilt in 1818 by the architect Grain.
The Manoir du Bois-Baril dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. It has a wide, square, water-filled moat separating the main building from the farmyard. The manor was entered in the register of French historic monuments in 1939; its dovecote was classified as a historic monument in 1942.
Jacques Daviel was born in La Barre-en-Ouche on 10 August 1693. He is associated with the first removal of the eye lens. For many years, a brickworks operated at the entrance to La Barre-en-Ouche. The Harmonie de la Barre-en-Ouche was founded in 1856.
