Émalleville: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Émalleville is centred around its 18th-century château. Today’s Château d’Émalleville was preceded by a feudal motte dating from the 11th or 12th century.

Culture

The Château d’Émalleville was rebuilt between 1720 and 1725 by François Duvert on the ruins of a medieval seigneurial estate. The buildings and gardens of the Château d’Émalleville are listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. The estate includes 18th-century interiors with south-facing salons and bedrooms, wood panelling and trompe-l’œil decoration.

The Notre-Dame Church also preserves several historical layers: its nave dates from the late 11th century, was altered in the 16th century, and its choir dates from the 18th century. The church in Émalleville was consecrated in 1520 under the patronage of Notre-Dame. In the 19th century, it was sold and used for agricultural purposes; in 1856, the municipality bought it back and subsequently secured the building step by step.

Landscape

The park covers 16 hectares and preserves, along the estate’s main axis, a design featuring double rows of lime trees arranged in semicircles. It also includes a collection of tree species associated with the Muséum d’histoire naturelle, including purple beeches, Atlas cedars, cedars of Lebanon, bald cypresses and Sequoia Wellingtonia.

The park of the Château d’Émalleville combines a formal French garden to the north with an English landscape park to the south and west. It includes avenues of lime trees, a pond and notable trees.

Visiting

The park of the Château d’Émalleville is open to the public in July and August, as well as during the « Rendez-vous aux jardins » in June and the Heritage Days in September. The long-distance hiking trail GR® 222 – Entre Eure et Iton is designated as a hiking route in Émalleville.
