Hiking Trails
On the Chemin des Amoureux, 30% of the route runs through woodland. This includes five sections of between 100 and 800 metres along the boundary of the state forest. A further 21% runs through bocage landscape bordered by traditional hedgerows on embankments.
The trail offers six viewpoints over a gently rolling hilly landscape; the corresponding sections account for 11% of the route. There is also the Chemin des vallées et collines du Dour, with a longer variant measuring 12.4 km and a walking time of approximately three hours.
Culture
The Church of Saint James stands on a feudal motte. The bell tower of Écaquelon church is partially protected as a Monument historique under a decree dated 17 April 1926.
Écaquelon church contains 16th-century wood panelling classified as protected movable cultural property, as well as a protected 16th-century stained-glass window depicting the Virgin Mary and Saint Catherine.
The church also contains the protected painting “The Martyrdom of Saint Adrian” by Jean Jouvenet. In addition, there is a protected 17th-century bas-relief entitled “The Flight into Egypt”.
The private Château du Bois Héroult can be seen from the Chemin des Amoureux. This 18th-century château is not open to visitors. The private Manoir de la Hennière can also be seen from this trail but cannot be visited. The Manoir de la Ferté is likewise visible from the Chemin des Amoureux and was the residence of the writer Henri Lavedan in the 19th century.
