Bouquetot: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The chapel and château of the Domaine de Saint-Hilaire were built during the reign of Louis XIII. The château is constructed of brick and stone, features a square pavilion to the southeast, and displays glazed cross ornaments in the brickwork. By decree of 12 June 2006, the Domaine de Saint-Hilaire was listed as a historic monument. The listing includes the château, chapel, cider press, outbuildings, park including walls, pillars and gates, as well as the access avenues.

Culture and Townscape

The Belle Épine is a white hawthorn estimated to be around six centuries old. Since January 2001, it has held the French designation “arbre remarquable” for notable trees. The Fête du printemps gives the Belle Épine a strong symbolic role. The listed site “L’Église et le cimetière de Bouquetot” covers 0.24 hectares and includes the old hawthorn as well as two yew trees in Bouquetot; it was listed by decree of 5 January 1925.

The Church of Saint-Philibert, the cemetery and the cemetery yew trees are located in the immediate vicinity of the Belle Épine. The church preserves parts of a 12th-century nave. In the 13th century, the walls of the nave were raised; the choir and tower were built at that time. Saint-Philibert has a single-nave layout, and a porch precedes the west façade. By decree of 17 April 1926, the church was listed as a historic monument.

Trails and Local Produce

The 10-km “La Belle Épine” hiking trail begins in Bourg-Achard, passes through Bouquetot and returns to its starting point. The Ferme de la Mare des Rufaux is an organic vegetable and fruit farm that grows apples and pears.
