In the hamlet of Héritot, Saint-Ouen-du-Mesnil-Oger is home to Notre-Dame d’Héritot, a religious building dating from the 18th century. Also located in Héritot is Château d’Héritot, a château or manor house dating from the 18th century. The manor house and farm complex at 25 Champ Delaunay is a château or manor house ensemble dating from the 17th century. The commune’s modest built heritage also includes the washhouse on the Voie de Cléville.

The Church of Saint-Ouen still features bricked-up round-arched openings, which are interpreted as evidence of a Romanesque construction phase. Opposite the town hall stands the striking Manoir de Saint-Ouen-du-Mesnil-Oger building complex, which is considered to have been the residence of a Sieur de Saint-Côme.

Nature and Trails

Wooded paths are considered one of the scenic attractions of Saint-Ouen-du-Mesnil-Oger. The hiking route from Troarn to Mézidon Vallée d’Auge passes through Saint-Ouen-du-Mesnil-Oger. In addition, the commune is planning a network of hiking trails to promote nature tourism and hiking.

History

Before the French Revolution, Saint-Ouen, Héritot and Hernetot were independent parishes. Hernetot was incorporated into Saint-Ouen after its church was badly damaged by fire in 1790. Héritot was incorporated into Saint-Ouen-du-Mesnil-Oger in 1833.

Near Hernetot, the Dives River divides the area into almost equal parts.
