Culture and History

The Manoir des Champeaux or des Tourelles was built in the second half of the 16th century and fortified with two turrets at the beginning of the 17th century. In the 19th century, the manor's dovecote was converted into a half-timbered workshop.

The main house of the Manoir de la Plesse was built around 1530, extended around 1550, and decorated around 1580. The Manoir de la Plesse is a complete rural ensemble of the Pays d’Auge's half-timbered architecture. The cider press house, built in the 16th century, still has an apple-processing wheel and a press with a long pressing lever.

The porch of the Church of Saint-Germain-de-Montgommery originally came from the former church in Vimoutiers. The church also has an 18th-century pulpit whose back panel is decorated with a painted Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

The feudal motte of Saint-Germain-de-Montgommery is a well-preserved Norman earthwork motte. The former fortress is an irregularly oval structure measuring around 80 metres in diameter, with a wide ditch and an embankment made of piled-up marl. The fortress of Montgommery was besieged in 1054 by Henry I, King of France, and subsequently burned down together with the settlement surrounding the castle and its associated church.

The Church of Saint-Germain-de-Montgommery stands at the highest point of a hill and overlooks the Vie valley. A feudal motte is said to be located west of the church.
