Culture and History
The new Château de Planquery was built in the 16th century on the ruins of an earlier fortress. Two surviving towers probably date from an early fortified complex. The surviving loopholes and the former elevated entrance still recall the Château de Planquery's original defensive function today.
The Église Saint-André de Planquery preserves a choir dating from the late 12th or early 13th century. The church was built by Guillaume BACON after his return from a crusade. Numerous members of the family found their final resting place in the Église Saint-André de Planquery.
A Templar commandery with a chapel was founded in the present-day hamlet of Baugy in the 12th century; its remains are still preserved. The commandery of Baugy was located in the parish of Planquery and was founded by Roger Bacon in 1148. The Ancienne commanderie de Beaugy also includes a chapel that is partially listed as a historic monument. The listing was made by decree dated 10 April 1995.
Water and Landscape
The Étangs de Planquery are located at Le Moulin Bacon in Planquery. You can fish at the ponds for half a day, a full day or in the evening.
