Forest and Trails

The Forêt domaniale de Cerisy has 25 kilometres of signposted footpaths and 10 kilometres of cycle paths. It is freely accessible via numerous marked forest paths and hiking trails; a frequent starting point is the Maison de la Forêt at the Carrefour de l’Embranchement in Montfiquet. The Maison de la Forêt in Montfiquet is also a starting point for tourist circular routes.

A circular route around the Étang du Titre, also called Mare aux Biches, passes several picnic areas. La Quête Féerique is a self-guided, 2-kilometre treasure hunt in the Forêt de Cerisy and starts at the Maison de la Forêt in Montfiquet.

The Maison de la Forêt offers a free educational exhibition designed with scenographic elements. Its permanent exhibition is complemented by an outdoor timeline tracing 1,000 years of the history of the Cerisy forest. The guides at the Maison de la Forêt offer guided walks with commentary in the Cerisy nature reserve on the topics of forest, fauna and flora. The arboretum of the Forêt domaniale de Cerisy provides visitors with information about some of the tree species found there.

Nature

The Forêt domaniale de Cerisy is a national nature reserve. The Cerisy national nature reserve was established to protect populations of ground beetles, including the Carabe doré à reflets cuivrés, and its habitat. In autumn, mushroom-picking outings are offered with the Association mycologique du Cotentin.

Culture

The Église Saint-Thomas-de-Cantorbéry in Montfiquet dates from the 12th century and belongs to the transitional period of Romanesque architecture. In addition to the Église Saint-Thomas-de-Cantorbéry, the motte of the castle of Montfiquet’s first lords can be seen on a hill at the confluence of two small valleys.
