Merville-Franceville-Plage: Holiday apartments and houses
The Merville Battery has been preserved as a fully intact historic site. An educational trail leads between the various bunkers and conveys their history. The complex was a German army fortification on the eastern flank of the Allied landings on 6 June 1944.

Culture and history
La Redoute de Merville features an exhibition room on the history of the site and the restoration work, as well as a temporary exhibition that changes annually. The small horseshoe-shaped fort was built according to the principles of Vauban architecture to protect the bay and was part of a group of three artillery works built around the estuary between 1779 and 1780.
Nature and landscape
The dunes of Merville form the largest preserved dune complex in the Calvados département and can be explored via walking trails.
The Gros Banc ornithological reserve lies in the heart of the Orne estuary and can be visited on a walk. The Orne estuary is a protected natural area where animal and plant species live in accordance with the rhythm of the tides and the seasons. More than 400 bird species have been recorded in the aquatic habitats between land and sea in Merville-Franceville-Plage.
Water and activities
As part of “Voile et Pagaie”, guided nature excursions are offered in the Orne estuary. It is also possible to rent and take part in activities involving paddleboards, kayaks, pirogues, catamarans, dinghies and Longe Côte. The Club Nautique marina at the entrance to the Orne estuary has 200 berths.
At Les Crins de la Baie, horse rides take place in small riding groups.
