Livry: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The La motte de Briquessard route is an easy hike of around 8.8 km, lasting approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. It begins at the church car park in Livry, Caumont-sur-Aure, follows the Chemin de Briquessard and leads to the hamlet of Briquessard. Part of the route runs along the edge of a forest.

History

In the 11th century, Briquessart was Livry’s most important hamlet and was also a castellany and a sergenterie. Today, the motte of Briquessard is an interesting element of Livry’s civil architecture.

Culture and Spirituality

According to tradition, the Saint-Sulpice Chapel stands at the place where Saint Sulpice, Bishop of Bayeux, suffered martyrdom in the 9th century. The Saint-Sulpice spring was restored in 1891 and has a bathing pool. The Saint-Sulpice Chapel can be visited by prior arrangement. The Saint-Sulpice site has long attracted pilgrims who pray for the healing of skin diseases.

The oldest parts of Notre-Dame de Livry date from around the year 1000. The eastern parts of Notre-Dame de Livry were extensively remodelled in the first half of the 13th century.
