History
In La Cambe, there is a commemorative stele for the 165th Signal Photographic Company. The stele commemorating the A-2 advanced landing ground recalls that an American airfield was partly located within the municipality in the summer of 1944. A-2 Cricqueville-en-Bessin airfield became operational on 17 June 1944; the 354th Fighter Group and the 367th Fighter Group were stationed there.
The Notre-Dame church in La Cambe has been documented since the late 13th century. At that time, Robert Dumesnil, Lord of La Cambe, donated it, together with the parish tithes, to Plessis-Grimoult Abbey. The church has a Romanesque basic structure and a Latin-cross floor plan with a nave, choir, transept, and two chapels.
Trails
The stele commemorating the A-2 advanced landing ground can be reached from the center of La Cambe via Rue des Vignets in a northerly direction, through the hamlet, and then along a narrow road for 200 meters.
Several hiking trails cross the La Cambe area; some of them are also open to mountain bikes. From La Cambe, hiking trails lead inland through bocage landscapes and marshland, to Isigny, and to the beaches.
