The Zoo de Jurques moved to Jurques in the Calvados département in 1977. It is divided into two circular routes that are accessible with pushchairs. The “Soigneur d’un jour” experience provides insights behind the scenes and the opportunity to accompany the animal care team during their daily work. Participants prepare food, feed animals, maintain enclosures and learn how animal food is prepared.

Nature
The “Landes et tourbières de Jurques” sensitive natural area lies on a broad sandstone ridge that reaches an elevation of 300 to 350 metres. The area comprises wet heaths, meso-hygrophilous heaths, meso-xerophilous heaths and tall heaths. The meso-hygrophilous heaths include northern Atlantic wet heaths, a habitat of community interest. The substrate, exposure and climate favour the presence of rare plant species there.

Pierre Dialan is located in the Bois du Nid du Chien in Jurques. La Pierre Dialan is a Neolithic megalithic monument and is classified as a historic monument. La Pierre Dialan provides a setting for walks.
History
A pottery workshop in Jurques operated from the mid-19th century until 1915. As part of the post-war reconstruction, Claude Berson worked in ten municipalities in the Calvados département, including Jurques. Jurques sandstone was used as a building material in the architecture of the 1950s and 1960s reconstruction period.
