Grangues: Holiday Apartments and Vacation Homes

Grangues is a hilly village in the Pays d’Auge hinterland of Calvados, easily accessible from the beaches of the Côte Fleurie. A defining feature is the Église Notre-Dame de Grangues, with its long history of construction and furnishings. Those choosing Grangues as a destination may consider renting a holiday apartment.

Culture

The Église Notre-Dame in Grangues is protected by its listing as a Monument historique under the decree of 17 July 1926. It was built in the 12th and 13th centuries, is Romanesque in style, and was altered in the following century by the installation of Flamboyant Gothic windows.

Its furnishings include a signed painting of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, dated 1727 and bearing the inscription “La Haye Cagniard Pinx 1727”. A bell in the Église Notre-Dame in Grangues dates from 1541.

Nature

The 9-kilometre Les Deux Fontaines hiking trail connects Grangues and Gonneville-sur-Mer. The paths along the Les Deux Fontaines route are maintained by the municipal association and the participating municipalities and are marked with FFRandonnée trail markings.

The Saint-Roch spring is a designated stop at the entrance to the church in Grangues. It has traditionally been credited with curing contagious diseases.

Visiting

In summer, the association dedicated to preserving the Église Notre-Dame de Grangues organizes guided tours of the church. For summer 2026, the Église Notre-Dame de Grangues was scheduled to be open every Sunday from 15:00 to 18:00, from 12 July to 23 August. On 18 July and 14 August, candlelit evening tours with sacred singing were also scheduled from 19:00 to 22:00.
