Culture and History
The Church of the Nativité de Notre Dame is located in Fresné-la-Mère and serves as a place of Catholic worship. The bell tower of Notre-Dame Church was rebuilt after its destruction in 1944. Notre-Dame Church contains architectural elements from the 15th, 17th and 19th centuries.
The Château de la Galerie is also part of the local history. The château dates from the 18th century and is located south of Fresné-la-Mère on the Route de la Galerie. On 23 September 1911, Noël-Marie-Maxime Ménard, Baron de Couvrigny, was shot there by his 18-year-old son Robert.
The former Diocese of Sées is mentioned in connection with Saint-Pierre Church. The patronage of the church was transferred to Saint-Evroult Abbey in the mid-11th century.
Routes and Local Orientation
The Grand Chemin was used by pilgrims travelling to Mont Saint-Michel and passed through the village of Fresné-la-Mère. In the 19th century, the Caen–Tours railway line also ran through the village, where a railway station was built.
