Épron bears an unusual radio history in its name: On December 8, 1948, the name “Epron” was drawn in a lottery, creating “Epron, Village de la Radio.” A few months later, on June 5, 1949, the foundation stone of the Village de la Radio was laid.

Culture and History

The history of the village is closely connected with the upheavals of the 20th century. Épron was destroyed in the war from 1939 to 1945 and rebuilt before other French villages. On July 9, 1944, at 4:30 p.m., Épron was liberated by the 59th Staffordshire Division. The rebuilt Église Saint-Ursin received its official consecration on November 4, 1957.

Another cultural landmark is La Grange aux livres. The building in which it is located dates from 1846; in 2012, La Grange aux livres was given its cultural use. It offers more than 5,000 books on site.
