Blangy-le-Château has been one of “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France” since June 21, 2024. The Chaussey Valley encompasses a wetland and flowering meadows with bee-friendly plants. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Blangy-le-Château can consider the village as a possible destination.
Culture and History
The former Auberge du Coq Hardi is a half-timbered building dating from the 16th century and is listed in the register of historic monuments. The façades and roofs of the Ancienne auberge du Coq-Hardi were listed as historic monuments by a decree dated December 28, 1928.
The bell tower of the 15th-century Notre-Dame church has been listed as a historic monument since October 11, 1930. Notre-Dame church also contains a stained-glass window depicting the “Arbre de Jessé” from the early 16th century, which was placed under protection by a decree dated November 30, 1908.
The manor house is a 17th-century building that is partially protected as a historic monument. The protection covers the façades and roofs of the manor house, as well as two entrance pavilions in the Louis XIII style. The washhouse is a wooden structure dating from the second half of the 19th century.
The “parcours de visite” walking tour in Blangy-le-Château includes information panels about the village’s remarkable heritage, as well as a historical timeline tracing the origins of the village through to the 20th century.
Nature and Landscape
Blangy-le-Château lies in a valley through which the Chaussey and Douet Hébert rivers flow. Protected white-clawed crayfish occur in the small tributaries of the Chaussey; fishing for this species is prohibited there.
On the Grande Rue, a landscaped watercourse known as the “fil d’eau” connects the village’s upper and lower springs.
Paths and Walking Routes
The “Entre la Touques et le Chaussey” circular route leads around Blangy-le-Château and is intended for discovering the natural heritage. It can be downloaded free of charge to a mobile phone via the Cirkwi app and is rated easy.
A footpath connects the car park with the access point to the “Butte aux Pages” hiking trail. The Venelle du Château is a safe shortcut for pedestrians from the car park and from the Chaussey Valley to the shops on the Grande Rue.
The “Butte aux Pages” hiking trail is equipped with information panels about fauna and flora and leads to a panoramic viewpoint.
The grounds of the Théâtre de verdure invite visitors to take a walk through history, the environment and culture, and include a biodiversity trail, picnic areas with benches, and a medieval garden. Performances may take place at the Théâtre de verdure. A picnic area has been set up directly by the old washhouse, away from traffic.
