History and Culture
The Manoir de la Luzerne is partially listed as a historic monument. It was built at the end of the 15th century and expanded in 1637, together with an Italian-style orangery.
The Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité in Bernières-sur-Mer features significant construction phases dating from the 12th to the 14th century. Inside, there is a monumental high altar, a painting of the Crucifixion and votive offerings.
On 6 June 1944, the Maison des Canadiens in Bernières-sur-Mer was the first house liberated by sea. It can be visited by prior arrangement, provided the owners are able to accommodate this.
The Blockhaus de la Cassine is a defensive installation connected with the Atlantic Wall and associated with the landing of Canadian troops in Bernières-sur-Mer. Two memorial trails in Bernières-sur-Mer convey the history of the landings.
Nature
The Marais du Platon formed behind the dune ridge around the former bed of the Seulles after the river shifted its mouth from Bernières to Courseulles. The area is home to diverse plant life and abundant wildlife, including the natterjack toad and sea ruppia.

Cap Romain is a palaeontological site with a cliff and a rocky plateau exposed at low tide. It contains fossil sponge colonies from the Jurassic period’s tropical conditions, as well as evidence of large mammals from the Quaternary period.
Getting There
Bernières-sur-Mer can be reached from Paris by train to Caen and then by bus. The train journey to Caen takes 2 hours and 49 minutes, followed by a further 35-minute bus journey from Caen station.
