Warlus: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Warlus is home to a protected heritage site, the Château et église Saint-Lambert ensemble, at 4 rue du Château. The protection covers the façades and roofs of the château and its outbuildings, as well as the park, orchard and kitchen garden. The protection order of 25 March 2009 covers the church in its entirety.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment should consider Warlus as a destination.

Culture and History

The church in the ensemble has a short nave, a three-sided apse and a bell tower dating from 1550. It is located within the walled château grounds; its door opens onto the village. The roof of Saint-Lambert Church was renewed in 1770, and the choir in 1777.

The Château de Warlus was rebuilt in 1688 after a fire in the 16th century destroyed a large part of the older château. During the First World War, it housed the French headquarters in 1915 and received Generals Joffre and Foch as well as French President Raymond Poincaré. It was also used during the Second World War.

The bronze bell of the church in Warlus dates from 1790 and is named Philippine. The square bell tower of the church in Warlus and the bell dating from 1790 were listed as historic monuments in 1943. The chapel of Warlus was built in 1935 and blessed on 10 May 1936 together with the statue of Notre-Dame des 3 Ave Maria.

The Stèle des femmes déportées in Warlus depicts three embracing women and commemorates the women and children who disappeared at the Ravensbrück camp during the Second World War. The Château de Warlus opens its doors during the “Journées du Patrimoine”, held in September.
