Nature
Le Mont de Surques and le bois du Val lie on the chalky escarpment of the Haut-Boulonnais. Together, they form a small remnant forest ecosystem connected with calcareous grasslands and meadows. In Le Mont de Surques and le bois du Val, 14 plant species and 7 vegetation units of significance for ZNIEFF were recorded.
Since July 2024, Surques has been one of the 111 municipalities in the Marais audomarois - Aa - Hem - Flandre UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Surques is listed as a municipality in the Marais audomarois - Aa - Hem - Flandre UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Culture
The two statues of Saint Crépin and Saint Crépinien are sculptures from the 17th century. The two works were located in the Church of Saint-Crépin in Surques; they have been stolen. On 1 February 1911, the statues were listed as protected movable objects.
The Manoir du Brugnobois in Surques is an authentic 16th-century building that houses an inn. The inn serves delicious cuisine prepared partly with farm products.
Culinary Experiences
The Bay Pascal café-bakery in Surques offers pastries, wood-fired bread, viennoiseries and pizzas for consumption on site. La Ferme des Cailleuys is a sheep-farming operation and offers farm products made from sheep's milk in Surques, including cheese, Tomme and yoghurt.
La Ferme du Paillard offers direct sales in Surques of fresh pork, beef, poultry and rabbit meat, as well as terrines, including pâté and rillettes.
Hiking
The hiking loop Dans la campagne d'Hocquinghen follows the Sentier du Mont de Surques. It runs along Mont de Surques, while the du Boctiau and du Val forests lie to the left. The loop is 19.30 km long, takes an average of 6 hours and 10 minutes, and returns to the starting point.
Access between points 14 and 15 of the hiking loop was not possible because of a gate on private property.
