Saint-Georges: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Culture and history

The church’s octagonal tower dates from the 17th century. Ionic columns adorn the walls of the nave. The bell tower was listed as a historic monument under a protection order dated 10 June 1926, and the portal under a protection order dated 23 November 1946. The church is partially protected as a Monument historique.

In 1094, Saint-Georges was described as an abandoned chapel outside the walls of Hesdin. In 1099, Jean de Comines, Bishop of Thérouanne, elevated the chapel to the Saint-Georges priory. The former priory was located on the left bank of the Canche.

Saint-Georges was a station on a pilgrimage route. Pilgrim ampullae and other pilgrim artefacts found locally are displayed in the Vieil Hesdin Museum.

Routes and activities

The Circuit du ravin is an off-road vehicle site located in Saint-Georges and offers facilities for 4x4 vehicles, quad bikes and motorcycles. The Circuit du ravin includes areas for motor sports and shooting ranges.

The “Le Charles Quint” hiking trail passes through Saint-Georges. It starts at the Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church in Vieil-Hesdin, is 13 km long, takes 3 hours and 15 minutes, and has a moderate difficulty level. As a historically themed trail through the Vieil-Hesdin area, it conveys the region’s rural heritage. On the Saint-Georges plateau, the trail offers panoramic views over the Canche Valley; the Hesdin forest lies in the background.
