Noyelles-Godault showcases its history in several tangible places: Cité Crombez has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012. The Parc d’activités du Quai du Rivage business park in Dourges and Noyelles-Godault is located at the intersection of the A21 and A1 motorways.
Culture and History
The Cité Crombez garden estate was built between 1910 and 1926 to house miners who worked in Pits No. 4 and 4 bis. After the site was decontaminated, the former Métaleurop plant was replaced by the SITA AGORA eco-park, which focuses on waste recovery and activities related to sustainable development. Planned work on the public spaces of Cité Crombez is intended to promote soft mobility and protect biodiversity.
The Church of Saint Martin also recalls the eventful history of the town: it was destroyed by the Germans at the end of the First World War and rebuilt in 1931. The historic Noela district is located near a marshland and the Deûle.
Events and Leisure
Each season, the Centre Culturel Matisse offers a cultural programme featuring dance, chanson, concerts, theatre, musicals and performances for young audiences, as well as workshops for children and adults. The Médiathèque Michel Berger offers numerous exhibitions, events and workshops throughout the year. It also has a supervised video game area where users can play for one hour once a week.
The Complexe Coubertin includes a football stadium surrounded by a running track. The Foulées Noyelloises take place at the Complexe Coubertin in September. For larger events, the Espace Bernard Giraudeau is available: it can accommodate up to 540 seated spectators and enables the town of Noyelles-Godault to host major live performances in a purpose-built, technically equipped venue.
