Nature
The Parc du Louvre-Lens covers a 20-hectare site designed by landscape architect Catherine Mosbach in close collaboration with SANAA. The park is both a central access point to the museum and intended as a shared place for residents and tourists to spend time.
The route through the Parc des Berges de la Souchez runs for 15 km from Lens to 9-9bis and can be used on foot, for running, Nordic walking, or by bicycle.
Cityscape and History
Place Jean-Jaurès forms the historic center of Lens; it is dominated by the Church of Saint-Léger and is also the town hall square. Regionalist, neoclassical, and Art Deco façades can be found there. The church is the only building that was rebuilt true to the original.
The Art Deco route through Lens city center can be explored with a guide, using the free Guidigo smartphone app, or with an accompanying booklet. During a guided tour, the history of Lens’s reconstruction after the First World War is explained using the city center’s Art Deco façades.
