Culture and history

The Fosse de Fléchinelle was established from 1855 onwards; operations ended in 1927. The surviving remains include administrative buildings, former stables and a spoil heap.

The original Moulin de Serny appears to date from the 19th century. Its workshop building was raised in 1927 and used as a sawmill; originally, the mill was powered by an overshot vertical water wheel.

The Moulin Espagnol, also known as Moulin Harchy, is said to have been built around 1635. It remained in operation until around 1938 and has a restored overshot water wheel.

The Chapelle St Germain has a nave dating from the early 17th century. Its choir is said to date from the late 17th century; the upper floor above the choir may have served as a refuge for part of the population or as an observation post during unrest in the region from the late 17th to the early 18th century.

The Chapelle St Wandrille dates from the 16th century and houses a polychrome statue of Saint Apollonia, the patron saint of dentists. The choir of the Eglise St Omer also dates from the 16th century. The Ferme des Templiers was built in the 17th century on the ruins of a medieval fortified house.

The information panels along the Sentier de l'Alouette cover the mining settlements, the Fléchinelle spoil heap, wind energy and agriculture in rural areas. The Sentier de l'Alouette is intended for schoolchildren and families.

The Sentier sportif des Paysages à énergies is 27.39 kilometres long, takes eight hours, is classified as very difficult and begins in Enquin-les-Mines. It is associated with the La Carnoye site, where six wind turbines have been installed.
