The Monument au soldat Marche stands at the entrance to Square Henri-Darras in Bully-les-Mines. It was inaugurated on October 4, 1925, and moved to this location at the end of the 1970s. By decree of January 12, 2010, it has been protected as a historic monument.

History

The Monument aux morts de la Compagnie des Mines de Béthune is located on Place de la Marne in Bully-les-Mines.

It commemorates 935 miners from the company’s Cité des Brebis who fell at the front during the First World War. The monument, including its plaques and the gates of the Cité des Brebis, is protected as a historic monument.

The Salle Jean Vasseur in the Brebis district was formerly the ballroom of the Compagnie des mines de Béthune. During the First World War, it initially served as a military hospital for French troops and later for British troops.

The Église Saint-Maclou is a characterful church in the centre of Bully-les-Mines. The former Sainte-Barbe maternity hospital, now Les Marronniers, is protected, including its façades and roof. The Clinique Sainte-Barbe (Marronniers) in Bully-les-Mines is one of the communal facilities of the Compagnie des mines de Béthune.

Nature

Terril 52 (“Terril du 2”) is a mining spoil heap 1 kilometre long and 300 metres wide. Today, it is a biodiversity reservoir for animal and plant species.

Terril 52 (“Terril du 2”) is also a place for recreation, walks and sports, including disc golf.

Parc Henri Darras is a wooded park for walks covering more than 7 hectares. It offers opportunities for walking and sporting activities and is also a venue for outdoor celebrations.

Local life

A market is held in Bully-les-Mines on Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Place Victor Hugo. On Saturdays, there is a sales stall on Boulevard Alfred François from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
