Villeneuve-D'ascq combines memorial sites, museums and extensive parkland. The Mémorial Ascq 1944 commemorates the massacre of 86 civilians by soldiers of the 12th SS Division Hitlerjugend on the night of 1–2 April 1944 and places the event in the history of the occupation of northern France.

Nature
The Parc du Héron covers 110 hectares and offers opportunities for walking and cycling. The park was designated a voluntary nature reserve in 1995 to protect its fauna and flora, and became a regional nature reserve in 2012.

Culture

Ferme d'en Haut was rehabilitated as a “Maison folie” in 2004 as part of “Lille 2004, European Capital of Culture”; the renovation preserved the site's rural character. It is a venue for interdisciplinary artistic projects.

Discoveries
Asnapio Archaeological Park regularly offers guided tours, workshops and themed Sundays exploring everyday life in times gone by. The Forum des Sciences offers a planetarium, scientific investigation and discovery games, as well as activities for different age groups. The Forum départemental des Sciences is a centre for scientific, technical and industrial culture managed by the Nord département.
On the first Sunday of every month, the Musée du Terroir offers a workshop on making waffles with cassonade. The Musée de Plein Air brings together a collection of almost 25 rural buildings from northern France. At the Musée des Moulins, guided tours are offered inside the oil mill and the grain mill.
