Landscape and nature
The Scarpe-Escaut area combines meadows, agricultural land, extensive forests, plateaus, valleys and plains. The North section of the Nord-Pas de Calais Mining Basin is part of a vibrant cultural landscape extending for around 120 km through the Nord and Pas-de-Calais départements. Mormal Forest is one of the largest forest areas in northern France.

Paths and waterways
The département maintains 7,000 km of paths for hiking, cycling and horse riding, as well as 21 cycle-tourism loops. The numbered North point-nœuds cycling network offers 830 km of paths for creating individual routes. The 84 Cafés Rando in North are located near hiking, horse-riding, cycling or mountain-biking routes and offer places to take a break and eat local dishes.
The Scarpe greenway connects Douai with Mortagne-du-Nord. The Voie verte de la Plaine de Scarpe runs from Orchies to Denain.
Culture and history
Ten cultural institutions of the département are spread throughout North. The Forum antique de Bavay is closely associated with the archaeological forum and offers an additional interpretation of its remains. It also offers a new visitor route accessible to people with reduced mobility, with interpretation stations and scenographic displays tracing the site's development from an ancient forum to a fortress.
Regional cuisine
Estaminets in North are traditional restaurants associated with local dishes and a distinctive atmosphere. Traditional North dishes highlighted by the regional tourism authority include carbonade flamande, endive gratin, tarte au Maroilles and beer from the North.
