The former Chapelle Sainte-Barbe was built in 1911, fully restored and now serves as the Espace Sainte-Barbe. At the same time, the Chapelle Sainte-Barbe is one of the 353 elements of the French mining basin that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Culture
The four interconnected miners’ settlements now form the contiguous De Sessevalle district and illustrate the pavilion-style residential model of the Compagnie des Mines d’Aniche. Construction of the Cité Beaurepaire settlement began in 1910, was completed in the 1920s and today comprises 250 homes. The Ancien prieuré de Beaurepaire is located in Somain.
