Saint-Saulve: Holiday apartments and houses
The Church of the Carmel of Saint-Saulve was built between 1954 and 1966 and is a remarkable example of sculptural architecture. By decree dated 7 May 2002, it was listed as a historic monument.
Those planning Saint-Saulve as a travel destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and history
The Chapelle du Carmel is also one of the town’s distinctive religious buildings. It is located behind a gate that is always open; a garden leads to the chapel, which appears as a sculpture. Its zenithal light is filtered through twelve stained-glass ceiling windows.
The history of church construction goes back further: After the former Saint-Martin church became too small despite its floor area being doubled in 1838, Hamoir had a new church built in Saint-Saulve between 1863 and 1865. The Parcours patrimoine complements this historical perspective with around twenty information panels at sites that were important to the development of the municipality.
The Espace Athéna is an events hall with a capacity of 280 seated or 350 standing guests. It is associated with A Travers Chants, a French chanson festival held in March. The Athéna Blues Festival takes place in November with an international programme.
Nature and activities
The Parc urbain du Rôleur has an outdoor fitness area, children’s playgrounds and running routes ranging from 500 to 2,500 m. The Parcours randonnées pédestres, the municipal hiking programme, includes four routes of 4.5 km, 5 km, 7.5 km and 14 km. Maps are available at the town hall, the Salle de sport Coubertin, the swimming pool, the neighbourhood centre and the CCAS.
Parc Fortier has two ponds. It also features a 10,000 m² federal fishing pond with two bodies of water.
