The “Bocage de Prisches et Bois de Toillon” nature reserve comprises dense hedgerows, meadows with ponds, numerous streams, and the Rivièrette. The Rivièrette is the watercourse that crosses or runs alongside the Saint-Nicolas Church in Prisches.

History
The settlement of Prisches probably became established around the year 1000 at the site of today’s town centre. The origin of the village of Prisches is said to be connected with a Gallo-Roman villa at the site of Linières.
The Charter of Prisches, dating from 1158, organised the market and protected inheritance rights.
Culture
Thirty-nine elements of the religious heritage in the Avesnois are listed for Prisches: one church, 25 oratories, six chapels, one niche, and six Calvaries or crosses.
After an earlier church was destroyed by fire in 1472, a new church was built in Prisches in 1550. Its bell tower was rebuilt in 1780–1781 and is 23 metres high. Prisches Church had the appearance of a fortress because its cemetery was surrounded by a wide moat and an enclosing wall; during attacks, the villagers could take refuge there and defend themselves.
The main altar and the two side altars of Prisches Church came from Maroilles Abbey and were acquired in 1791. The protected inventory includes the object “autel de Saint-Nicolas, son retable et son tableau: Saint Nicolas”, which was registered as a protected object on 7 June 1973. It is an ensemble from the 18th century; the lower part of the altarpiece is more recent.
At the exit of Prisches in the direction of Le Nouvion, the “Calvaire Cochet” chapel stands at the site of Malgarni and is named after the Cochet family. The “N.D des Victoires” chapel, dating from 1897, is located at La Sablière and contains numerous small statues of saints.
Walking Routes
The “Circuit des boutons d'or” circular route begins on Rue de la mairie in Prisches, is a very easy 8.3-kilometre hiking route, and passes the Croix Vendois.
The “Chapelles et oratoires” route passes through Prisches, is 26 kilometres long, and is listed as taking 2 hours and 30 minutes. Along the route, small country lanes lead past scattered blue-stone oratories through the bocage landscape. These oratories were made by craftsmen and differ in shape, size, and details.
