Haulchin is situated on the right bank of the Escaut River. The town is home to the Pyramide commémorative de la bataille de Denain, which has been classified as a historic monument since 1875.

History and Culture

Cacoule, the giant of Haulchin, was officially recognised at the town hall on 13 September 2008 and baptised on 24 May 2009. The figure is based on a local dowser and is associated with Haulchin’s numerous springs. At events within and outside the municipality, it represents Haulchin.

In the immediate vicinity of Haulchin are the Artothèque du CRP/Centre régional de la photographie Hauts-de-France museum and the ruins of the Abbaye de Fontenelle. The surrounding area also contains the historic site of Ancien Mont de Piété and the historic site of Abbaye Sainte-Rictrude-et-Saint-Pierre.

The Parc des berges de l’Escaut contributes to Haulchin’s green surroundings. The Mont de la Justice hill is located in the wider regional area around Haulchin.

Culinary Delights

The Marché des saveurs in Haulchin takes place every second Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at La Halle. It includes Marie with fruit and vegetables, Jérôme as a butcher, charcutier and caterer, and Jean-Philippe as a cheesemonger.

Transvilles line 17 connects Famars Université and Denain, passing through Maing, Thiant and Haulchin.
