Cycling routes and nature
Parc Miroux has an annual recurring eco-grazing programme with sheep. The history of mobility also remains present: the former railway station of Ferrière-la-Grande was converted into the Relais Éco-Vélo.
Walks
The “Circuit 1: le Village” route is a 3-kilometre loop starting at Place Gambetta in Ferrière-la-Grande. The Sentier de l’Octroi also begins at Place Gambetta; it is a 7-kilometre hiking trail that takes around 2 hours. In the immediate surroundings, it passes through fields and meadows with hedgerows typical of the Sambre-Avesnois landscape and offers panoramic views of Ferrière-la-Grande.
The Sentier de l’Octroi also passes the Chapelle Notre Dame du Bon Vouloir, which dates back to 1752. The chapel is located at the upper end of Rue Roger Salengro and was built in 1752; a chronogram above the entrance refers to this year of construction.
The Circuit des censes de Raidmont offers a longer route: the hiking trail is 10 kilometres long, takes between 2 hours 30 minutes and 3 hours 20 minutes, and starts at the car park of the former railway station of Ferrière-la-Grande. The Fort du Bourdiau is located close to the route. It is the highest point in Ferrière-la-Grande and part of the defensive belt of Maubeuge.
Culture and history
The Église St Amand de Ferrière-la-Grande was extended in 1848 with a choir and a sacristy; its two side chapels were rebuilt in 1851. The church also contains a large organ made by the Anneesens workshop in Halluin.
The Oratoire N.D. de Walcourt in Ferrière-la-Grande, at 19 Rue Alphonse Splingard, dates back to 1790. The Cense de Rémont was the most important possession of the Benedictines in Ferrière-la-Grande.
Ferrarias is a medieval festival in Ferrière-la-Grande that was scheduled for 13 and 14 May 2023, as well as 18, 19 and 20 May 2024.
