Culture

The Église Saint-Wandrille was rebuilt in 1901. It contains two remarkable, protected altarpieces: the northern one depicts the presentation of the rosary to Saint Dominic, while the southern altarpiece is made of painted wood and dates from the 18th century.

In the centre of Drincham, the medieval motte of the village’s former lordship has been preserved. The Château de Drincham was rebuilt in 1620 by the widow of Mathieu de Cupère, the governor of Gravelines, and destroyed in 1793. A circular pond that served as the castle moat is still preserved.

The former presbytery was converted into the town hall. Its council chamber contains an original bread oven that is still fully functional.

Nature

Meadows account for 14 per cent of Drincham’s area. Wetlands, ponds and hedgerows are concentrated there, along with the village’s biodiversity.

There are three large hunting ponds with hides in Drincham. The municipality also lies on an important migration corridor for wetland birds. Great crested grebes and coots move along the Colme on the route.

Trails

The variant of the Circuit des nouvelles terres is a 12-kilometre, moderately difficult hiking trail marked in yellow. The Circuit des nouvelles terres passes through the fertile areas of Maritime Flanders and initially often follows farm tracks. It starts at the church car park in Drincham.

The Chemin 05 from Drincham to Holque passes through the rural landscape of Flanders between two villages. The route and markings for Chemin 05 are available to download. The chapels along the route recall the region’s religious history.

Events

The Route des fours à pains in Drincham is one of the events supported, promoted and co-organised by the SIVOM des Rives de l’Aa et de la Colme.

A children’s rally is listed for Drincham.

Those planning a trip to Drincham with the Église Saint-Wandrille and Circuit des nouvelles terres in mind may want to rent a holiday apartment.
