Salerm: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Salherm was established on the edge of the Bouconne Forest. The place name is said to derive from the Late Latin “sal” meaning “domain” and from “ermita” meaning “someone who lives in solitude”. Salherm is a 12th-century sauveté.

Nature

The Forêt et lac de Fabas nature area is classified as a ZNIEFF 1 under number 730011410. It covers approximately 800 hectares and includes an artificial lake of around 30 hectares. The area has numerous hiking trails through various natural environments. Along the trails, visitors can observe, among other things, black woodpeckers, red kites, European beech trees, autumn crocuses, false fennel and scorpion broom.

The remaining forest massif, which has now been reduced in size, is divided among the municipalities of Fabas, Salherm, Saint-André and Lilhac.

History

Salherm Castle was initially expanded by the de Faudoas family and subsequently by the de Gauléjac family. The Saint-Pastou family settled at Salherm Castle from the 15th century onwards. Salherm Castle is not open to visitors.

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was rebuilt in 1850. It contains a bronze statue of Saint Peter dating from 1877.

Culture

At the village festival in July 2025, a mass at 6:00 p.m. in the Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption in Salherm was scheduled for Saturday, July 5. In April 2026, a mass was due to take place there at 6:00 p.m. on the second Sunday of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday.

The local festival in Salherm is considered an annual event featuring a mass, a ceremony at the war memorial, refreshments, a meal and a folk dance.
