In Montaigut-sur-Save, historic religious buildings meet the Bouconne forest massif and trails for hikers and mountain bikers. The Église Saint-Pierre, the Notre-Dame d’Alet chapel and the activities around the Base de Loisirs de Bouconne showcase the different sides of the town.
Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment can choose Montaigut-sur-Save as their destination.
Culture
The oldest parts of the Église Saint-Pierre, including the choir and much of the single-nave church, probably date from the 14th and 15th centuries. Three chapels were added in the 17th and 18th centuries. The church has a bell gable built in 1835, with two large bells, each bearing the date 1835.
A shaded footpath connects the Église Saint-Pierre with Notre-Dame d’Alet. The chapel was built in the 11th century following an apparition of the Virgin Mary and rebuilt in 1673 after its destruction during the Wars of Religion. Inside are three Baroque altarpieces, Burgundian-style sculptures and a 17th-century terracotta Pietà . Outside its usual opening hours, Notre-Dame d’Alet can be opened on request; guided tours can also be arranged on request.
