Mondonville: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The hexagonal Tour de l’Horloge in Mondonville was built between 1844 and 1852 from pebbles and hand-cut red bricks.

History

Two towers remain from the medieval Château de la Tour; they marked the fortified entrance. In the area of the former castle courtyard, there is still a well with a diameter of 2.2 metres.

Some Romanesque elements of the original construction have been preserved in the wall beside the churchyard of the Church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens. There is also a statue of Our Lady of the Fields by J. Lefèvre from 1875 in front of the church. The pigeon house has a traditional “en pied de mulet” roof with access holes for pigeons.

Nature

The Parc de la Tuilerie in Mondonville covers two hectares, and the Gajea stream winds its way through the park. There are shady benches, picnic tables and play facilities beneath around 60 species of trees.

The Le Gajea walk passes through a blue corridor that provides a habitat for aquatic species. Kingfishers and wagtails hunt for fish and insects in the clear waters.

Mondonville lies on the edge of the Bouconne Forest, managed by the French forestry authority Office National des Forêts. Its numerous paths are used for walking and mountain biking. The PR20 “Dans la peau du naturaliste de Bouconne” is an 18.5-kilometre hike that starts in the Cœur de ville of Mondonville and leads to the Bouconne Forest.

Programme

Mondonville’s heritage trail has an adapted version for visitors with reduced mobility. When it was inaugurated in September 2022, the route was described as a family-friendly educational walking trail with seven information panels at notable locations in the municipality.

As part of the municipal cultural programme, Martine from “Lire et faire lire” tells stories once a month on Wednesdays at the Médiathèque during “Histoires sur le tapis”. During the school holidays, the municipal cultural programme offers “ciné-goûters” on Wednesday afternoons, with a film followed by a snack.

In summer, family events called “Bullons aux parc” take place in the Parc de la Tuilerie in Mondonville.
