Culture and Townscape

The Stations of the Cross, “chemin de croix: huit estampes”, are located in the Church of Saint Martin in Arlos. They date from the 19th century and were placed under protection as a movable object on 20 January 2009.

The Church of Saint Martin defines the centre of Arlos and is regarded as a distinctive testament to the local cultural heritage. It was designed according to the principles of rural ecclesiastical architecture and has stone walls and a bell tower. In a protected setting, it offers visitors a quiet, contemplative stay.

Nature

The Pyrenean desman (Galemys pyrenaicus) appears to be more widely represented at the upstream confluences of the mountain streams near Melles and Arlos.

Hiking

On the route to Pic du Burat from Arlos, the path follows the stream after a small stone bridge along the GR10.

A car park at the exit of Arlos in the direction of Saint-Béat-Lez is given as the starting point for the route to Pic du Burat. The route to Pic du Burat is listed as a difficult 19-kilometre hike with a walking time of 9 hours and 30 minutes.
