Le Neufour: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Culture

The Verrerie du Cristallin glassworks in Le Neufour has been documented since 1539 and produced tableware from a high-quality glass known as “cristallin”. Under the name “Verrerie des Recrètes, puis Le Neuf Four”, several workshops operated successively in Le Neufour from 1525 to 1826, followed by a factory.

Until the mid-17th century, the Le Neuf Four glassworks produced tableware, and thereafter bottles in various types and sizes, garden cloches, and objects made of black glass. The Verreries du Neufour in Le Neufour in the Meuse department are a stop on the Circuit Verre d’Argonne.

The stained-glass window in the church of Le Neufour depicts Saint Francis of Assisi together with a dying soldier. The church of Le Neufour is one of the churches in the Pays d’Argonne that contain or contained memorial windows dedicated to the First World War.

Trails and history

The hiking route on the GR14B and GR14 runs from Le Neufour to Varennes-en-Argonne. It is 25 kilometres long and passes entirely through the forest.

The route passes the ossuary of Haute Chevauchée; remains of trenches and craters from the mine warfare of the First World War have been preserved along the route.

Local life

In 2026, the Easter egg hunt in Le Neufour had been held for 40 years. At the Easter egg hunt in Le Neufour on Easter Monday 2026, participants collected 700 fresh eggs and hundreds of sweets in the forest. This was followed by a large communal omelette, attended by dozens of guests.
