Nature

The Étang d'Amel was created by monks in the 13th century for fish farming. It is one of the last ponds in the Woëvre Plain to have preserved its wild character. The wetland birdlife at the Étang d'Amel comprises almost 200 species.

The Réserve Naturelle Régionale de l'Étang d'Amel extends across Amel-sur-l'Étang and Senon. The Étang d'Amel became France's first regional nature reserve in 2006.
