Saint-Génis-Des-Fontaines: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

According to an inscription dating from 1019–1020, the carved lintel of the portal of Saint-Michel Church is said to date from that period. At the same time, the portal lintel of Saint-Michel Church is considered the oldest dated Romanesque monument in France. Culture

The Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines was built by Sentimir in 780. The abbey church of Saint-Michel has a Latin-cross floor plan with strongly pronounced transepts. During the restoration of the abbey church in the 12th century, the building was fitted with vaults.

The cloister was built in the 13th century and is classified as a historic monument. Its special feature is its polychrome design made from regional marble: white marble from Céret, pink marble from Villefranche-de-Conflent and black marble from the Corbières Roussillonnaises. The Galerie des deux clochers in the upper walkway of the cloister presents exhibitions that change monthly throughout the year. The municipal cultural service and the tourist information office welcome visitors in the cloister. The Boucle des Albères – Le patrimoine retrouvé begins at the cloister of Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines.

Nature

A market is held in Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines on Place Jean Rolland every Tuesday and Friday morning. The Friday market includes cheese and goose-based products.
