The Château Royal was built in the early Middle Ages to protect Collioure and its natural harbour; since 1922, it has been classified as a historic monument. Guided tours, concerts and cultural events are organised at the Château Royal throughout the year.

Culture and History

The main altar of Notre Dame des Anges is Catalan Baroque and covered in gold leaf. The bell tower of Notre Dame des Anges was built on the foundations of a lighthouse.

Fort Saint-Elme is a historic five-pointed fortress overlooking Collioure Bay; it was listed as a historic monument in 1927.

The Musée d’Art Moderne de Collioure opened on 20 September 1985, after the town of Collioure acquired Villa Pams in 1981.

The Chemin du Fauvisme features 17 reproductions of works by Henri Matisse and André Derain, distributed throughout Collioure. The route can be explored as part of a guided tour or a family workshop.

The Vitrine sur le Fauvisme offers cultural experiences for exploring Collioure’s heritage, as well as art workshops for parents and children.

The Fête de l’Anchois is a traditional event in Collioure dedicated to anchovies. It includes a market featuring regional products, tastings and demonstrations of traditional know-how.

The Fêtes de Saint Vincent are a five-day festival featuring music, traditions and shared events for the residents of Collioure and visitors.

Nature and Trails

Collioure is one of the twelve coastal municipalities of the Parc naturel marin du golfe du Lion.

The Tour Madeloc stands at an altitude of 652 metres and offers panoramic views over the Roussillon plain and coast. A challenging circular hike leads to the Tour Madeloc from Collioure; the route is 16.2 km long.

Current Status

Fort Saint-Elme has been privately owned since 2023 and is closed to visitors. The Musée d’Art Moderne de Collioure is currently closed; reopening is scheduled for 2028.
